Crispy Homemade Waffles - Breakfast recipe

Ingredients

  • • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • • 1 3/4 cups buttermilk
  • • 2 large eggs, separated
  • • 6 tablespoons melted butter
  • • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • • Non-stick cooking spray
  • • Maple syrup, fresh berries, whipped cream to serve

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Preheat your waffle iron. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  2. Step 2: In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk, egg yolks, melted butter, and vanilla.
  3. Step 3: In a clean bowl, beat egg whites with a hand mixer until stiff peaks form.
  4. Step 4: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined — lumps are fine.
  5. Step 5: Gently fold in the beaten egg whites in two additions. This is the key to extra-light waffles.
  6. Step 6: Spray the preheated waffle iron with non-stick spray. Pour enough batter to fill your waffle iron (usually 3/4 cup).
  7. Step 7: Cook until steam stops coming out and waffles are golden brown, about 4–5 minutes.
  8. Step 8: Serve immediately with maple syrup, fresh berries, and whipped cream.
